Found a Lost Pet?

At Iridescence Cares, we believe every pet deserves a safe way home.
If you’ve found a stray animal — thank you for taking the time to help!
Follow these steps to make sure the pet gets the best chance to reunite with their family.

We follow the same steps recommended by the York County SPCA, our local animal welfare organization.
By working together we can reunite lost pets with their families faster and more safely.

Step 1: Check for Identification
Look for a collar, ID tag, or microchip.
Most veterinarians and shelters — including the York County SPCA — will scan for microchips for free.
This is often the fastest way to identify an owner.

Step 2: File a Found Animal Report
Visit the York County SPCA “Lost & Found” page here: YCSPCA
Submit a Found Animal Report so the SPCA can check for a matching Lost Report.
If you can safely keep the pet for a few hours, please do — many reunions happen the same day a report is filed.

Step 3: Contact Local Authorities (if you cannot hold the animal)
If you cannot keep the animal safely or for any period of time:
You may bring them to the York County SPCA shelter if found within York County limits or call 911 and ask to have your local Animal Control Officer dispatched to pick up the animal.
Local contacts:
🐶 York County SPCA: (717) 764-6109 | info@ycspca.org
🐾 York City Animal Control: (717) 854-1587

Step 4: Post Online to Help Spread the Word
Sharing photos and details online helps owners find their pets faster.
Include where the animal was found, when, and any unique markings or behavior.
Helpful platforms:
Find Toby in PA (Facebook)
Local neighborhood or community pages
Nextdoor or other local lost-and-found groups

Step 5: While You Wait for Help
Keep the animal in a safe, quiet space away from other pets.
Avoid leaving the pet outside unattended.
If the animal seems injured or in distress, take it to a local animal emergency clinic or call 911.

Step 6: Need Additional Support or Rescue Guidance?
If the owner cannot be located after following SPCA procedures, and the animal needs temporary care or placement, our Iridescence Cares team can help connect you with trusted local rescue partners or provide guidance.

Email iridescencecares@gmail.com with “Lost Pet Help” in the subject line.

Please include:
A few clear photos of the animal
Where and when it was found
Any notes about behavior, health, or special needs

Our team will review your message and reach out if we’re able to assist or make a referral to an approved rescue organization.

💕 Thank You
By taking these steps, you’re helping a lost animal find their way home and supporting a compassionate community that cares for every creature.
Together, we can make kindness visible.
