Pet Surrender

Limited, case-by-case intake. Iridescence Cares is not a shelter.

Iridescence Cares is a small, volunteer-based rescue. Our primary mission is TNR (Trap–Neuter–Return) and community cat assistance — not sheltering or long-term housing. Because we have very limited space and rely entirely on foster homes, we can only accept pet surrenders when a safe and appropriate placement is available.

This page explains how surrender works and what fees apply.

Before You Request a Surrender

Please note:
This page is for owned pets only.

If you have found a cat, kitten, or dog, please visit our Found a Lost Pet page instead. Most found animals should start in that process, not this one.

Before requesting surrender, we ask that you consider:

  • Rehoming through trusted friends, family, or local networks
  • Addressing behavior concerns with basic training or vet care
  • Using low-cost resources (spay/neuter, microchipping, wellness clinics)

For cats: determining whether TNR may be a better option, especially for outdoor or unsocialized cats

Often, alternative solutions prevent rescues from becoming overwhelmed and help animals faster.

When We Can Accept a Pet Surrender

Because we are not a shelter and space is extremely limited, we consider surrenders only when:

  • A foster home is available
  • The animal is safe to handle and appropriate for rescue placement
  • The owner has truly exhausted reasonable rehoming options
  • The situation puts the animal at risk without intervention

We prioritize:

  • Pregnant or nursing cats (case-by-case)
  • Kittens under 8 weeks without mom
  • Pets whose owners are facing unavoidable crises
  • Owners who need support and have no other option

Approval is not guaranteed, and intake must be scheduled in advance.

Surrender Fees

A non-refundable fee is required at the time of intake to help cover basic care, transport, intake supplies, and veterinary needs.

  • Surrender Fee: $25

These fees support immediate care and allow us to reserve our limited space for the most urgent cases.

How the Surrender Process Works

1. Submit a Surrender Request Form
Tell us about your pet and your situation. This helps us determine whether intake is possible and what resources may be available.

2. A Volunteer Will Review Your Request
Since we operate around work schedules and foster availability, response time may vary. We will contact you with next steps or alternative recommendations.

3. Intake Must Be Scheduled
We cannot accept walk-ins.
If approved, we will arrange a specific time and location for surrender.

4. Pay the Surrender Fee at Drop-Off
The $25 fee is due at the time of intake and is non-refundable.

5. We Begin Care and Rehoming
Your pet becomes the responsibility of Iridescence Cares. We place them in foster care and work toward vaccination, sterilization if needed, and adoption.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I bring in a stray cat or a found dog?
No. Please visit our Found a Lost Pet page for instructions.

Do you take walk-in surrenders?
No. All surrenders must be pre-approved and scheduled.

Why is there a fee?
Intake costs money — vaccines, vet visits, food, litter, transport, supplies. The fee helps offset these expenses.

Do you always accept surrenders?
No. We only accept pets when a foster is available and the case is appropriate for our rescue.

Can I get the fee refunded if I change my mind?
No. All surrender fees are non-refundable.

Do you take dogs?
Yes, but only when we have a confirmed foster or placement. Dog intake is very limited.

Do you take litters of kittens?
When space allows. We may ask questions about mom, age, health, and environment before approving intake.
